PRECISAMOS DA SUA AJUDA PARA O TRATAMENTO DO NOSSO TUCA!!!!

O Arthur, carinhosamente conhecido por Tuca, é o nosso grande guerreiro de 7 anos que vem lutando bravamente contra um câncer muito raro e agressivo. Já enfrentou e venceu muitas batalhas ao longo deste ano. 

Em Março de 2020, através de um exame de  Ressonância Magnética, foi diagnóstico com um tumor  de 17cm no canal medular. Passou por uma cirurgia de 10 horas  com Dr Sergio Cavalheiro no Hospital Santa Catarina. Partes do tumor foram enviadas para exames de imunohistoquimica, onde descobrimos se tratar de Tumor teratoide rabidoide raquimedular de T9 a L5 com metastase no cerebelo. 

Cumpriu protocolo inicial com +50 doses de quimio, 28 sessões de radio (sob sedação), perdeu paladar, parou de comer, colocou sonda nasoenteral para auxiliar na alimentação e fortalece-lo para as etapas árduas de quimioterapia. Se não bastasse tudo isso, também teve COVID, mas superou “ileso” como ele mesmo disse.

Em Agosto, repetiu a ressonância e as lesões tumorais tinham sumido, isso mesmo: nosso primeiro milagre aconteceu!! O tumor sumiu! Sendo assim, iniciou protocolo de manutenção com administração de quimioterapia por via intratecal, com aplicação do quimioterápico no reservatório de Omaya implantado na cabeça, quimioterapia venosa e também oral.

Seguindo o protocolo, em Outubro foi repetida a ressonância onde foram constatadas novas lesões na cervical e no cerebelo, em locais diferentes das anteriores. 

SITUAÇÃO ATUAL E DECISÃO MÉDICA

Como o protocolo então utilizado não se mostrou mais eficaz, a terapia alvo indicada pelo FoundationOne é a única alternativa viável, ainda que experimental.

Ele não pode mais receber radiação e os quimioterápicos não estão impedindo novas lesões.

O Tazverik (Tazemetostat) - droga indicada para o caso do Arthur - foi aprovada pelo FDA em fevereiro.

O processo de importação não foi fácil pela dificuldade de acesso à droga - mesmo pela empresa importadora - e, em razão da pandemia, a previsão de entrega é de algo em torno de 20 dias.

O frasco da medicação custa R$ 200.000,00 para apenas 40 dias. Ele precisará fazer uso contínuo por cerca de 2 anos.

WE NEED YOUR HELP FOR THE TREATMENT OF OUR TUCA!!!

Arthur, affectionately known as Tuca, is our great warrior of only 7 years old who has been fighting bravely against a very rare and aggressive cancer. He has faced and won many battles this year.

In March 2020, through an MRI scan, he was diagnosed with a 17 cm tumor in the medullary canal. He underwent a 10-hour-long surgery with Dr Sergio Cavalheiro at Hospital Santa Catarina. Parts of the tumor were sent for immunohistochemistry exams, which showed it to be spinal cord teratoid/rhabdoid tumor (T9 to L5) with metastasis in the cerebellum.

He initiated the first protocol with 50+ doses of chemo, 28 radiotherapy sessions (under sedation). He lost sense of taste, stopped eating, had a nasogastric tube placed to assist in feeding and strengthening him for the harsh journey through chemotherapy. As if that weren’t enough, he also had COVID-19, but thankfully he got over it “unscathed” as he says.

In August, he repeated the MRI scan and the tumor lesions were gone. That's right: our first miracle happened!! The tumor was gone! He therefore was put in a maintenance protocol, with administration of chemotherapy intrathecally, with application of chemotherapy in the Omaya reservoir implanted in his head, plus intravenous and also oral chemotherapy.

As per the protocol, in October the MRI was repeated. New lesions were found in the cervical and cerebellum, in different places from the previous ones.

CURRENT SITUATION AND MEDICAL DECISION

As the protocol being used was no longer effective, the target therapy recommended by FoundationOne is the only viable alternative, even if experimental.

He can no longer receive radiation, and chemotherapy is not preventing new lesions.

Tazverik (Tazemetostat) - the drug recommended for Arthur's case - was approved by the FDA in February.

The import process was not easy due to the difficulty of access to the drug - even by the importing company - and, due to the pandemic, delivery time is expected to be around 20 days.

Each medication vial costs R$ 200,000.00 (around USD 37,000) and lasts for only 40 days. Tuca needs to use this medication continuously for about 2 years.
