Since the last week of April, the State of Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil has been faced with the worst flood of its history. Many people lost their lives, and like many other people, we lost almost all of our belongings. The house we lived in, our vehicle, appliances, and furniture, were completely submersed. We are currently wandering and moving around living with friends and family, going day-by-day until it is safe to return home. In addition to that, job opportunities for Ariane are basically gone at the moment as she works as a free-lancer photographer, and we can’t anticipate when she will be able to be hired again.

Like so many others, we are seeking help from friends and family, for emotional and financial support to reconstruct our lives as we prepare to go back home when it becomes possible. We ask for help so we clean, restore, and refurbish the house. 

We so much appreciate and thank you for all and any help you can give us. If you plan to donate, please read the procedures:

1. Click on “Doe e concorra.” That means “donate and compete” (when you make a donation you are running for the opportunity to win 15 thousand reais. 
2. On the top left of the page, there is a US flag. Click there to see the page in English.
3. On the top right of the page, there is a text: I am a foreigner. Click there to enter your information, which has different requirements from Brazilian donors.
4. Please note that donations are in Brazilian currency R$ (Reais). 
5. The conversion rate is roughly 1 U$ dollar = 5 R$
6. E.g.: if you want to donate U$10.00, fill in R$ 50,00
7. Be aware that, for Brazilian currency, cents are informed after a comma, not a dot. Dots are used to indicate thousand. 
8. When you select to donate with the credit card, it will ask you to enter your email, to send you a code. The email with the code will be in Portuguese, but all that you have to do is to copy and paste that code.
9. You will also be asked to enter your ID, Driver’s license, or passport. You do NOT need to enter any numbers, you only have to type the word Passport.
10. Your donation confirmation will also come in Portuguese, and it is just an automatic thank you message, and you do not have to take further action into this.

Desde a última semana de Abril o Estado do Rio Grande do Sul tem passado pela maior enchente de sua história. Muitas pessoas perderam suas vidas e, como muitas outras pessoas, nós perdemos quase todos os nossos bens materiais. A casa em que vivíamos, nosso veículo, eletrodomésticos e mobília foram completamente submersos. Estamos atualmente vagando e nos mudando de local, vivendo com amigos e parentes, seguindo a vida dia após dia. Além disso, as oportunidades de trabalho para a Ariane estão paradas no momento, já que ela trabalha como fotógrafa freelancer, e não há expectativa de quando será possível que esse tipo de trabalho retorne acontecer.

Assim como muitos outros, estamos buscando ajuda com amigos e familiares, para suporte emocional e financeiro de modo a reconstruir nossas vidas tão logo sejamos capazes de voltarmos para casa. Pedimos ajuda para que possamos limpar, restaurar e mobiliar a casa.
