Campo de Futebol na Tribo Fulni-ô (Águas Belas - PE)

O Projeto de Aterosclerose Indígena (PAI), coordenado pelo Professor Anderson da Costa Armstrong e desenvolvido junto a populações indígenas, tem por objetivo avaliar o impacto da urbanização na saúde destes indivíduos. Uma das tribos incluídas no estudo foi a dos Fulni-ô (Águas Belas-PE), com uma particularidade, é a única tribo do Nordeste a manter ainda viva a tradição de falar sua língua nativa, o Yathee. O futebol tem sido uma ferramenta não só na perpetuação desse costume entre as novas gerações Fulni-ô, mas também um meio de mantê-los afastados de problemas que têm afligido as comunidades indígenas de um modo geral, a exemplo do álcool e das drogas. A tribo ainda não possui um espaço adequado para a prática do esporte, que além do valor cultural, também agrega benefícios à saúde desse povo, de modo que membros do PAI, junto com a comunidade criaram a campanha, cujo objetivo é arrecadar fundos para construção de um campo de futebol dentro da tribo e a criação de uma ONG, administrada pelos próprios Fulni-ô, para atender às suas demandas.

The Project of Atherosclerosis among indigenous populations (PAI), coordinated by Professor Anderson da Costa Armstrong and developed within indigenous populations, was created in order to evaluate the impact of the urbanization on the health of these people. One of the tribes included in the study was the Fulni-ô tribe (Águas Belas, Pernambuco, Brazil), with a peculiarity, it is the only tribe in the Northeast of Brazil to maintain the tradition of speaking its own language, the Yathee. Football has been an essential tool for perpetuating this habit among the new Fulni-ô generations, and a mean to keep them away from problems that have afflicted indigenous communities, such as alcohol and drugs. The tribe doesn’t have an adequate space for the practice of the sport, which besides the cultural value, has also impact on the health of this people. Therefore, members of the PAI project together with the community created the campaign, to raise funds for the construction of a football/soccer field inside the tribe, and for the creation of an NGO, runned by the Fulni-ô themselves, for future management of their own demands.
