Campanha para o Povo Paiter Suruí

Eu sou Natalie e criei essa campanha junto com o Cacique Almir Suruí para apoiar o Povo Paiter Suruí.

Muitos de vocês assistiram a jovem Txai Suruí brilhar 🌟 e encher o Brasil de orgulho na COP 26 - a Conferência das Partes sobre o Clima. Porém, nem todos conhecem muito sobre o seu Povo.

O Povo Paiter Suruí  é um povo indígena que vive em 28 aldeias na Terra Indígena Sete de Setembro entre Rondônia e Mato Grosso, na floresta amazônica. Esta comunidade tem como sua maior liderança o respeitável e mundialmente conhecido Chefe Almir Narayamoga Suruí, pai de Txai, que há mais de 20 anos vem reunindo muitas e diversas pessoas e instituições para garantir a vitalidade econômica dos habitantes nativos da região, protegendo seu povo e a floresta amazônica - um dos ecossistemas mais importantes do planeta. 

Uma das conquistas mais significativas do Povo Paiter Suruí foi ter seu projeto de reflorestamento na Amazônia ganho verificação internacional como projeto  REDD+, permitindo a negociação de créditos de carbono globalmente e assim recebendo os recursos necessários para o desenvolvimento sustentável da região. Infelizmente,  o projeto Suruí  REDD+ , sucesso por muitos anos,  está agora suspenso pela entidade verificadora internacional  devido à   atividade de mineração ilegal  invadindo o território  do Povo Suruí. 

O desafio, no entanto, é ainda maior. Devido à emergência do COVID-19 na Amazônia, ameaçando  severamente povos indígenas e florestais guardiões de nossa floresta tropical e do clima para o nosso futuro coletivo, alguns membros importantes da comunidade sucumbiram e o Povo Paiter Suruí está precisando de apoio para alimentar seus filhos e anciãos e, assim, continuar protegendo a nossa floresta.

Esta campanha tem o objetivo de conseguir contribuições para a compra de cestas básicas para 600 famílias que possam durar por 4 meses, tempo para reorganizar a cadeia de suprimentos. 

Agradeço imensamente a todos que possam se conectar com esta mensagem, contribuir da forma que for possível, mesmo que seja compartilhando estas palavras por meio de suas redes. Não deixemos de lembrar que estamos contribuindo para que os guardiões da floresta continuem a fazer o trabalho que nós, nos centro urbanos, não podemos fazer, mas que vamos todos usufruir 🙏🏼❤️.

Over this COP 26 week, one Brazilian is shining. She is the Indigenous Txai Suruí 🌟.

The Paiter Suruí People are indigenous people who live in 28 villages between the Mato Grosso and Rondônia states in the Amazon rainforest. An exciting curiosity came from a genetic study conducted in 2015 that concluded that, unlike other Native American Peoples, the Suruí, Kaririana, and Xavante have an ancestry partially related to Indigenous populations of the Andaman Islands, New Guinea, and Australia🌏.

This community’s leader is the respectable and world-known Chief  Almir Suruí, who has been thriving for over 20 years to bring his tribe back from the brink of extinction, to bring together many and diversified stakeholders to ensure the economic vitality of the region’s native inhabitants, and therefore to protect the beloved Amazon rainforest.

One of the most significant achievements of the Paiter Suruí People was having their reforestation project in the Amazon gained verification through the VERIFIED CARBON STANDARD ASSOCIATION and the Climate, Community, and Biodiversity Alliance as a REDD+ project. Unfortunately, the Suruí REDD+ project approved to trade carbon credits globally is now on hold due to the illegal mining activity invading the Suruí territory, which destabilized the simulation models approved in the past.

The challenge, however, is even more significant. COVID-19 emergency in the Amazon has escalated dramatically, threatening severely Indigenous and forest peoples protecting the rainforest and the climate for our collective future. As a result, some key community members passed away, and the Paiter Suruí People needs support to feed their children and elders.

I am launching a campaign alongside chief Almir Suruí to mobilize people to contribute to these guardians of the Amazon to provide basic food baskets for 600 families that could last for 4 months so that they can reorganize their supply chains, and then continue their stewardship mission. This is not a donation campaign. We are contributing to those who are taking care of one of the most important assets we have on the planet on behalf of all.
