Oi! Meu nome é Beatriz de Mattos Martins, tenho 17 anos, sou carioca, jornalista desde os 11, estudante do Colégio Estadual Clóvis Salgado (Caju – RJ), COO da ONG FalaPerifa e lalíder da Latin American Leadership Academy (LALA), maior rede de jovens líderes da América Latina.

Fui recentemente aceita no curso Reporting on Communities and Culture, da The School of The New York Times, em Nova Iorque — um dos programas mais prestigiados do mundo, com taxa de aceitação inferior a 9%.

Essa aprovação representa tudo o que tenho construído com muita luta e amor. Sou fundadora do Clube de Mídias do Colégio Militar de Manaus, Chief Operating Officer da ONG FalaPerifa (que leva letramento midiático a escolas públicas periféricas), e lalíder da Latin American Leadership Academy — rede que reúne jovens líderes da América Latina.

Ao longo desses 6 anos, já entrevistei mais de 100 pessoas, participei de mais de 15 simulações da ONU e lidero projetos que ajudam outros jovens a também contarem suas histórias. Mas, agora, preciso de apoio pra contar a minha.Mas pra transformar esse sonho em realidade, preciso arrecadar R$ 47.000,00 até o dia 10 de junho. Esse valor cobre: 

• a taxa do curso internacional (em dólar 💸)
• passagens aéreas RJ – NY ✈️
• visto e documentação 🛂
• alimentação e despesas básicas durante o programa 🍎 

Minha família não tem condições de bancar esses custos. Minha mãe está desempregada, e meu pai é quem sustenta a casa e cuida da minha avó, que é paraplégica há 16 anos.

Por isso, estou aqui com o coração aberto pedindo sua ajuda: qualquer valor já faz uma diferença enorme. E se não puder doar, compartilhar também é um ato de amor 💖

Hi! My name is Beatriz de Mattos Martins, I’m 17 years old, a proud Carioca, a journalist since I was 11, a student at Colégio Estadual Clóvis Salgado (Caju – Rio de Janeiro), COO of the NGO FalaPerifa, and a Lalíder at the Latin American Leadership Academy (LALA), the largest network of young leaders in Latin America.

I was recently accepted into the Reporting on Communities and Culture program at The School of The New York Times, in New York City — one of the most prestigious journalism programs in the world, with an acceptance rate of less than 9%.

This achievement means everything to me. It represents years of hard work, love, and purpose. I’m the founder of the Media Club at Colégio Militar de Manaus, COO of FalaPerifa — an NGO that brings media literacy to public schools in underserved communities — and a Lalíder at LALA, a powerful network of young changemakers across the region.

Over the past 6 years, I’ve interviewed more than 100 people, taken part in over 15 Model UN conferences, and led projects that empower other young people to tell their stories too.

But now… it’s time for me to tell mine.

To make this dream real, I need to raise R$47,000 (around USD $9,000) by June 10th. This amount will cover:

• ✏️ The full course fee (in USD)
• ✈️ Round-trip flights from Rio to New York
• 🛂 Visa and legal documentation
• 🍎 Food and basic living expenses during the program

My family can’t afford these costs. My mom is currently unemployed, and my dad supports our home while also taking care of my grandmother, who has been paraplegic for 16 years.
