HELP CAPELINHA

O nosso mundo mudou a partir da pandemia do COVID-19 ou coronavírus. Cada um de nós está sendo afetado de uma maneira diferente, alguns perderam entes queridos, outros perderam o trabalho e agora temem pelo sustento de suas famílias.

Em meio a tudo isso uma coisa é certa: este é um momento de sermos a diferença que queremos ver no mundo.

Foi pensando assim que uma turma de amigos Capelinhenses (que estudaram juntos há mais de 15 anos) decidiram se unir e criar uma campanha de distribuição de cestas básicas para os bairros mais carentes da cidade de Capelinha. O município está localizado no alto Vale do Jequitinhonha, nordeste de Minas Gerais, e conta com uma população estimada de 37.784  pessoas (IBGE-2019). A desigualde social na cidade é alarmante e por isso temos urgência nesta campanha. Dados do PNUD, Ipea e FJP mostram que em 2010 23,17% dos moradores de Capelinha viviam com uma renda domiciliar per capita igual ou inferior a R$ 140 por mês. E ainda que 9,53% da população vivia com uma renda domiciliar per capita igual ou inferior a R$ 70 por mês. 

Nosso primeiro objetivo é poder ajudar 100 famílias moradoras dos bairros Piedade e Substação, que são os mais carentes da cidade. As famílias que serão ajudadas foram afetadas diretamente pela pandemia. São mães e pais que perderam seus empregos e não têm como alimentar seus filhos ou comprar produtos básicos de limpeza e higiene pessoal.

Todo o dinheiro doado será usado para suprir por aproximadamente um mês uma família com alimentos (arroz, feijão, macarrão, açúcar, café, leite, óleo, latas de comida, sardinha, trigo) e materiais de limpeza (sabonetes, pasta de dente, água sanitária, detergente, papel higiênico, sabão para lavar roupas, entre outros). Cada cesta de alimentos e produtos de higiene pessoal custa em média R$ 100 (cem reais). Parte do grupo que organizou esta campanha vive em Capelinha e se ofereceu voluntariamente para comprar e distribuir as cestas de alimentos e suprimentos domésticos para as famílias. Qualquer contribuição é bem-vinda e muito apreciada. Lembre-se, quem tem fome tem pressa. Contribua e ajude a compartilhar esta campanha com sua família e amigos.

Our world has changed notably since the COVID-19 pandemic. Each one of us is being affected in a different way. While some have lost loved ones, others have lost their job and now fear for the support of their families.

In the midst of all this, one thing is certain: this is a time to be the difference we want to see in the world.

When you think about Brazil, you may think of beaches, soccer, and Carnival. But if you have seen the movie “City Of God”, you know that the country suffers from an enormous social inequality.

In the countryside of Brazil, hundreds of miles away from Rio and Sao Paulo, there’s a city called Capelinha, located in the upper Jequitinhonha Valley in the northeast of Minas Gerais. Known as one of the poorest regions of Brazil, Jequitinhonha Valley’s inhabitants suffer from drought and poor soils.

It was with its people in mind, that a group of Capelinhenses friends (who studied together for over 15 years) decided to come together and create a campaign to distribute basic food baskets to the most deprived neighborhoods in the city of Capelinha.

Capelinha has an estimated population of 37,784 people (IBGE-2019). The social inequality in the city is alarming and that is why this campaign is urgent. Data from UNDP, Ipea and FJP show that in 2010, 23.17% of Capelinha residents lived with a per capita monthly household income equal to or less to US$ 27.29 (R$ 140 in Brazilian Real) and another 9.53% of the population lived with a per capita monthly household income equal to or less than US$ 13.64 (R$ 70 in Brazilian Real).

Our first goal is to be able to help 100 families living in the neediest neighborhoods in the city with food and personal hygiene products baskets. The families aimed to be helped were directly affected by the pandemic. They are mothers and fathers who have lost their jobs and cannot afford to feed their children or buy basic cleaning and personal hygiene products.

All the money donated would be used to provide approximately one month of food (rice, beans, pasta, sugar, coffee, milk, oil, food cans, sardines, wheat) and household supplies (soap, toothpaste, detergent, paper toilet, laundry soap) help these families to maintain themselves for at least a month. Each basket of food and personal hygiene products costs an average of US$ 20 (R$ 100 Brazilian Real). Part of the group organizing this campaign live in Capelinha and they volunteered to buy and distribute the food and household supplies baskets to the families. Any contribution is welcome and very much appreciated. Remember, those who are hungry are in a hurry. Please contribute and help to share this campaign with your family and friends.
